CIU holds first certificate giving ceremony for Chinese language program The Confucius Institute Chinese Language Teaching Site at CIU, the first Chinese language teaching site in Chattogram organized its 1st Certificate Distribution Ceremony, celebrating students who successfully completed its Chinese language course on 12 August 2026 at the University Auditorium. Honorable Vice Chancellor of North South University, Professor Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest, while Cultural Counsellor, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bangladesh, Mr. Li Shaopeng, graced the event as the Special Guest. Honorable Vice-Chancellor of CIU, Professor Dr. M. M. Nurul Absar chaired the program. Director of the Confucius Institute Chinese Language Teaching Site at CIU Dr. Kazi Md. Siful Aspea delivered the welcome address. Trustee Dilruba Ahmed, member, Board of Trustees, CIU, Ms. Ma Xiaoyan, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at North South University; Professor Dr. Bulbul Siddiqi, Director of the Confucius Institute at North South University; Mr. Tan Junting, Council Director, Chattogram Branch, Federation of Chinese Association in Bangladesh, and Mr. Li Shikuo, Chinese Instructor, CIU also delivered speeches on the occasion. The speakers said proficiency in Chinese was increasingly becoming an important skill for education, employment, business, trade and international communication as China’s role in the global economy, technology and trade continued to expand. They also highlighted the government’s plan to introduce third-language education alongside Bangla and English in the national curriculum. Later, Professor Hannan, along with other distinguished guests, distributed certificates to the students who successfully completed the course. Chinese Instructor Mr. Li, who guided and supported the students throughout their learning journey, was also honored with an appreciation certificate and crest. Conducted by Ms. Rooma Das, Assistant Registrar, the programme was also attended by the Deans of different schools, faculty members, the Registrar, students, and other university officials. The Confucius Institute Chinese Language Teaching Site at CIU officially began its activities on January 29 this year. Since its inception, the institution has been promoting Chinese language learning and culture and facilitating educational and cultural exchanges between Bangladesh and China, while creating opportunities for students and people in Chattogram to explore higher education, scholarships, research and career opportunities in China.
