Introduction

Dr. Sharmin Tania is a Senior Lecturer at Curtin Law School, Curtin University, Australia. Her academic work spans diverse areas of international law, including international trade law, international refugee law, law and development, consumer law, equity, and South Asian law.

Dr. Tania has been involved in internationally funded research projects, including a Canadian International Development Agency–supported initiative on criminal justice reform in Bangladesh and a human rights study on the Bihari community in Bangladesh. She has presented and published her research extensively in Australia and internationally, and moderated a panel on “Green Policies for Inclusive Trade and Climate Justice” at the 2024 WTO Public Forum in Geneva.

She has successfully supervised multiple PhD candidates and continues to supervise Honours and postgraduate research students. Dr. Tania is also an editor of the International Trade and Business Law Review.

In recognition of excellence in research and teaching, she received the Curtin Law School Dean’s Research Prize (2018) and the Curtin Law School Teacher of the Year Award (2018).
