SSE Faculty members Visit IUT to Strengthen Academic and Research Collaboration

A delegation from the School of Science and Engineering of Chittagong Independent University (CIU) recently visited the Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET) at the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) in Gazipur on 24th April 2026. This visit, aimed at strengthening academic and research collaboration, is expected to play a significant role in fostering the exchange of knowledge and experience between the two institutions.

During the visit, the CIU delegation toured several state-of-the-art research and technology laboratories at IUT. These included the Robotics Lab, Semiconductor Lab, Cezeri Robotics Lab, Automobile Workshop, Communications Lab, Simulation Lab, DSP and VLSI Lab, Control Systems Lab, as well as the Machine Lab and Workshop. The team gained detailed insights into ongoing research activities, technological innovations, and the active participation of students in these labs. In addition, fruitful discussions were held on various important aspects related to BAETE accreditation.

The CIU delegation was led by Professor Dr. Aseef Iqbal, Dean, School of Science and Engineering. Other members included Dr. Md. Sajjatul Islam, Associate Professor and Head, CSE, and Dr. Rubell Sen Goopta, Associate Professor and Head, EEE. Trustee Mr. Lutfe M. Ayub, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), CIU, and Trustee Mr. Syed Mahmudul Huq, Member of the BoT, CIU, were also part of the visiting team.

The Vice-Chancellor of IUT, Professor Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, warmly welcomed the guests, and productive discussions took place regarding potential areas of collaboration between the two institutions. Key areas of focus included joint research initiatives, faculty and student exchange programs, collaborative projects, and various avenues for knowledge sharing.

Also present during the visit from IUT were Dr. Hissein Araby Nour, Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Md. Anayet Ullah Patwari, Dean, Faculty of Engineering and Technology (FET), Professor Dr. M. Ahsan Habib, Head, Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering (MPE), Professor Dr. Syed Iftekhar Ali, Head, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE).

Through this academic visit, stakeholders expressed optimism that a strong and long-term foundation for academic and research collaboration between Chittagong Independent University (CIU) and Islamic University of Technology (IUT) will be established.

The “National Android Development Bootcamp (NADB) 2026 Roadshow” was held with great enthusiasm on 23rd April, 2026 at Chittagong Independent University (CIU). The primary objective of the event was to provide students with practical insights into Android app development, app publishing, and the country’s rapidly growing mobile app ecosystem.

The program was organized by the School of Science & Engineering in collaboration with the CIU Programming Club (CIUPC), with support from bdapps—the national app store and digital platform operated under the initiative of Robi Axiata PLC. Held at the university auditorium, the event saw active participation from more than a hundred students.

During the session, the bdapps team directly engaged with students, discussing real-world challenges in app development, the steps involved in publishing apps on the bdapps platform, career opportunities, and app monetization strategies. This interaction provided students with valuable practical exposure to the technology industry.

Md. Abdur Rashid Sohag, President of the Startup Association of Bangladesh, delivered an inspiring speech on the country’s startup ecosystem, the importance of innovation, and the potential for young people to become entrepreneurs.

The bdapps team—Md. Altamis Nabil (Head of Managed Services), Shahed Saad Ullah (Senior Manager), Mohammad Arif Hasan (Business Development Manager), Mir Reaz Uddin (API Specialist), Mahir Ashef (Assistant Manager), and Sumit Sikder (Junior Android Developer), all from MIAKI under the bdapps National App Store Project—played a central role in making the session engaging, accessible, and highly relevant for aspiring developers.

Additional speakers included Professor Dr. Aseef Iqbal, Dean, School of Science & Engineering, and Habibur Rahaman, Faculty Advisor of the CIU Programming Club. They emphasized the importance of acquiring practical skills and maintaining strong connections with industry practices. Also present at the event were Dr. Md. Sajjatul Islam, Associate Professor and Head, CSE; Dr. Rubell Sen Goopta, Associate Professor and Head, EEE; Atiqur Rahman, Assistant Professor, CSE; along with other faculty members and officials.

The organizers hope that such initiatives will play a vital role in enhancing students’ technical skills and opening new opportunities in the country’s app development sector.

We are proud to announce the successful completion of a 5-day workshop on “Full Stack Web Development with Laravel”, organized by the Chittagong Independent University Programming Club (CIUPC) in collaboration with Creative IT Institute, Chattogram Campus. Held at the Networking Lab of CIU, the workshop brought together 45+ enthusiastic participants who gained hands-on experience in modern web development and Laravel fundamentals through practical, industry-oriented sessions.

The technical sessions were conducted by Md. Abdur Rahman, Associate Faculty Member, Web & Software Development, Creative IT Institute. The program was guided by CIUPC Faculty Advisor and Lecturer, CSE, Mr. Habibur Rahaman, with continuous support from Md. Rahim Uddin Tanjir, Assistant Manager, Business Development, Creative IT Institute. The journey concluded with a vibrant Closing Ceremony and Certificate Distribution, graced by the Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, Prof. Dr. Aseef Iqbal, Head of CSE, Dr. Md. Sajjatul Islam, Head of EEE, Dr. Rubell Sen Goopta, and other respected faculty members of CIU SSE. The event featured insightful speeches from the Dean, Head of CSE, Faculty Advisor, and representatives from Creative IT, including Md. Rahim Uddin Tanjir and MD. Abdur Rahman, highlighting the importance of industry-relevant skills and continuous learning.

As a gesture of appreciation, Creative IT Institute presented a crest to the Honorable Dean, recognizing his support and encouragement towards this collaborative initiative. Tokens of appreciation were also presented to the collaborators for their valuable contribution. The Closing Ceremony of the First Batch of the Hands-On Robotics Workshop for students of Al-Hidaayah International School (AHIS) was held on 20 February 2026 at Chittagong Independent University (CIU).

The two-month program was organized by the Institute of Information Technology and Industrial Research (IITIR) under the School of Science & Engineering (SSE), CIU. A total of 48 students successfully completed the workshop, gaining foundational knowledge in robotics and coding through structured, hands-on learning sessions designed to foster practical skills and innovation.

The workshop concluded with an engaging project showcase segment, where five participating teams presented their final projects, demonstrating their technical understanding and creativity.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Omar Abdullah of AHIS, followed by a welcome address delivered by Dr. Aseef Iqbal, Dean of the School of Science & Engineering (SSE), CIU.

Certificates of Completion were awarded to all participants, while the best-performing team received a Certificate of Excellence in recognition of their outstanding project work and performance throughout the program.

The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Md. Sajjatul Islam, Director of IITIR, and Mr. Atiqur Rahman, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE), CIU. Teachers from AHIS were also in attendance.

The ceremony concluded with a speech delivered by M. Moshtakim Zaman Prince from AHIS, who reaffirmed the shared commitment to continuing collaborative academic initiatives and expanding future batches of technology-driven educational programs.

On February 19, 2026, the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) at Chittagong Independent University (CIU) organized an insightful seminar titled “Planning for Innovative Final Year Project and Publication.” The event was hosted by the Institute of Information Technology and Industrial Research (IITIR).

The keynote speaker, Dr. Mohammad Arif Subhan Bhuiyan, Associate Professor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Xiamen University Malaysia, delivered a comprehensive presentation on designing final-year projects through the framework of the research life cycle. He also provided practical guidance on transforming project work into publishable research, enabling students to contribute to the global scientific community.

Dr. Bhuiyan emphasized the importance of integrating research across academic and industrial domains. He discussed the journey from ideation to publication, highlighting research ethics, proper acknowledgment, and effective project presentation to ensure credibility and impact. Additionally, he elaborated on how senior projects can effectively contribute to the attainment of Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs).

The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and proved highly beneficial in guiding them toward innovative and research-driven final year projects. The event concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, where students gained valuable insights into designing real-world solutions grounded in strong theoretical foundations.

The School of Science and Engineering (SSE) of Chittagong Independent University (CIU) continues to demonstrate excellence in research and academic engagement at nationally and internationally recognized platforms.

Mr. Habibur Rahaman, Lecturer, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Science and Engineering, CIU, has successfully presented research papers at the 28th International Conference on Computer and Information Technology (ICCIT 2025)—one of the most prestigious and top-tier international conferences in Bangladesh in the field of Computer Science and Engineering.

The presented research contributions are titled:
“An Enhanced Random Forest Model for Predicting Serum Creatinine in Chronic Kidney Disease”, emphasizing healthcare analytics and predictive modeling.
“A Practical Framework to Unlock Business and Employment Opportunities for Local Communities in Bangladesh’s Tourism Sector”, focusing on sustainable development and socio-economic advancement.

These scholarly works were conducted in collaboration with co-authors Musfiqur Rahman Akib, Sadman Abedin, and Augusto Dip Niloy (5th Year Student, CMCH).
