Department of MA in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching
The MA in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching is designed to prepare competent teachers of the English language and language teaching professionals. Courses will offer the students an excellent opportunity to enhance their knowledge and understanding of applied linguistics research and various aspects of teaching/learning the English language. Students will be introduced to a wide range of specialist subject areas, including both practice-oriented courses and more theory-oriented courses designed to develop a critical understanding of current issues in language and language pedagogy. This blend of theoretical expertise and ongoing practical experience will provide the students with the basis for a rewarding career as a language teacher, language teaching educator, or applied linguistics researcher.

Course Eligibility
Students with a 4-year Hon’s in English are eligible for admission. Students with BA/BSS Hon’s may also be considered for admission, but such students will have to complete 12 undergraduate credits, students with BA Pass and MA in English may also be considered for admission.

Credit Requirements for MA by Course Work
Students complete 40 credits, divided into core and optional courses. Students must take the 4 core courses and choose 8 optional courses.

Credit Requirements for the MA by Mixed Mode
Students in this stream will take 5 core courses, including on Research Methodology and write a Thesis of approximately at 25000 words on an approved topic.
