The MA in English program at Chittagong Independent University (CIU) is a one-year graduate degree designed to enhance students’ analytical, literary, and research skills. The program offers two flexible pathways: coursework and mixed mode. The Coursework option focuses entirely on taught courses, while the Mixed Mode combines coursework with a substantial research-based thesis. Students study a diverse range of literary genres, critical theories, and language-related subjects, preparing them for careers in teaching, research, media, and other professional fields. Applicants with an English background can enroll directly, while those from other disciplines may need to complete additional foundation credits. Course Eligibility
The MA program in English Literature is open to all four-year graduates who have majored in English. Students who have not majored in English may be considered, but will have to take 12 additional credits from undergraduate Literature courses to complete the program. Students with BA Pass and MA in English may also be considered for admission.

Students complete 40 credits, divided into core and optional courses. Students must take the 4 core courses and choose 8 optional courses.

Credit Requirements for the MA by Mixed Mode
Students in this stream will take 5 core courses, including on Research Methodology and write a Thesis of approximately at 25000 words on an approved topic.
