Chittagong Independent University (CIU) convened its 29th Academic Council meeting on 17 September 2026 at the CIU Conference room. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and the Chairman of the Academic Council, Professor Dr. M. M. Nurul Absar presided over the meeting while Trustee Dilruba Ahmed, Trustee Safia Ghazi Rahman, external members nominated by the syndicate to the Academic Council- Professor Dr. M. Ayub Islam & Professor Md. Abdur Razzak, Deans of the schools, Heads and Professors from different departments and the Registrar who is also the member secretary of the Academic Council attended the meeting. The meeting reviewed a range of important academic matters, including student enrollment and semester summaries, academic initiatives, accreditation status of the schools, activities of university centers and institutes, and academic policies. The Council also discussed and approved several academic initiatives, including common GED courses across undergraduate programs, the Certificate Course “Bangla for Foreigners,” the Double Major Policy for MBA, revised project and thesis guidelines for CSE, Syllabus for MSc/M Engg in EEE and CSE, the Revised Academic Calendar 2026, and the introduction of the Japanese Language Course. The Council approved the proposed MoUs be and took note of the MoUs signed with Yunnan University, China; HELP University, Malaysia; and UCEP Bangladesh, reflecting CIU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional partnerships and collaborations. The meeting reflected CIU’s continued commitment to academic excellence, quality assurance, innovation, and the continuous development of higher education.
