Introduction to Program

Computer plays vital and in fact indispensable role in all fields of modern human activities. Consequently, Computer Science and Engineering has established itself as one of' the most important branches of engineering. Recent development in computer has a considerable impact on society. It has already expanded to all fields of study starting from genetic engineering to space technology. Recent development in Artificial Intelligence has taken the human history a new height. That day is not very far when man can make machine like him.

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is one of the pioneer Departments of this Institute providing top-quality education in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at its undergraduate program. ICT is the leading sector in present day. It is already declared as a thrust sector in Bangladesh. Keeping this in mind the department offers B. Sc in CSE program to produce computer specialists.

Brief History

The bachelor program B.Sc. (Eng.) in Computer Science & Engineering, offers the students a strong background in the core technical areas and exposure to the cutting-edge technologies where their engineering contribution will be utilized. The course involves study of computer architecture, computer systems and networks, theory and design of digital system and software engineering.

Within the context of lifelong learning, the university will build on its national and international reputation for innovative student-centered programs that enable students from diverse backgrounds to achieve their educational goals. The university is committed to building up academic excellence through curriculum, teaching, scholarship and services designed to help build up knowledge-based society with ensuring quality education. Tailoring the moral values and nurturing latent power of students will be facilitated to obtain placement in job market in such a manner as is ethically justified, religiously attestable, culturally harmonious and intellectually competent.

>> To provide high quality state of the art education and knowledge in Computer Science and Engineering, to produce competent engineers, capable of solving real- world problems to meet the needs of industry and society.
>> To contribute towards the creation of new knowledge through eminence research and innovation in CSE and allied fields to address emerging national and global issues for well-being of the society.
>> To enable students in attaining required ethics with an attitude of entrepreneurial skills, ethical values and social consciences.
>> To embed leadership qualities amongst the students to follow successful professional career paths and to pursue advanced studies in computer engineering and a life-long learner in cutting edge developments in the field of computing and IT.

Program Learning Outcomes

1. To apply computer science and engineering knowledge for developing software and solving computing problems.
2. Analyze computing problems, identify & define requirements for solution.
3. To design, implement and evaluate computer based system, process, component or program to meet expected requirements.
4. To conduct scientific experiments as well as organize, analyze and interpret resulting data.
5. To compete in national and international programming contest & ICT innovations.
6. To develop professional, ethical, security social issues and responsibilities.
7. To improve communication and ICT skills to cope with the fast changing world.
8. To develop interpersonal, teamwork, and self-management skills.

Admission Requirements

An admission circular containing the admission requirements as per University Grant Commission (UGC) rules shall be announced for each academic session.
# At least GPA 5 (having minimum GPA 2.5 or 2nd division in both SSC & HSC or in equivalent examinations)
or
# At least GPA 6 (combined, but score not less than GPA 2 in any individual examination)
or
# The Children of Freedom Fighters: A total GPA of 5.00 or more in S.S.C. and H.S.C. Examinations combined,
or
# Level: Completed 5 subjects with no E in any subject.
# A Level: Completed 2 subjects with no E in any subject.
# In addition, the student has to have at least four C with no E in all seven subjects combined in O and A levels.
or
# A United States High School Diploma with required minimum grade point.
# H.S.C. Examination: Applicants must be from science group with Mathematics,
or
# Students should have Physics and Mathematics in both O and A level,
or
# If student holds HSC equivalent certificate from science group having mathematics and Physics, may also apply where the equivalence of the degree will be made by the equivalence committee to determine the eligibility.

Grading System and Performance Evaluation

The total performance of a student in a given course is based on a scheme of continuous assessment. For theory courses this continuous assessment is made through Attendance, Class Tests and Assignments. This assessment is also made through Mid-term Examination and Semester Final Examination. The total marks distribution is as follows:

Attendance & Behavior 10%
Final Examination 50%
